The Oaktown Writers Collective celebrates the art of writing. We lift up local black and African-American writers—published authors as well as those aspiring to complete serious work in specific genres of fiction and nonfiction.


Our books and our writing sustain us. They include fiction, nonfiction, books of short stories, and children's books. Writing feeds our souls. It uplifts our spirits. We receive energy from writing Writing is in many ways a meditative practice. ~ The Write Partnership

The Founding Members of the Oaktown Writers Collective are Valerie Haynes Perry, Colette Winlock, and Lesa Hammond. We came together to support each other in our writing and we want to spread the good will and positive encouragement that has helped each of us on our writing journey.
